FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gareth Johnson MP raises issue of passenger safety at Stone Crossing in Parliament

On Tuesday (17th April) Gareth Johnson MP for Dartford raised the issue of passenger safety in Parliament during a debate about Railway Stations.  Gareth raised the issue of Stone Crossing and how many passengers may find the poorly lit area intimidating at night and that the modernization of stations is an excellent opportunity to improve this aspect of the commute for passengers.

Gareth said:

“As a commuter myself, I understand the problems people face when returning to the Dartford area late at night or in the winter when it gets dark that much earlier.  Commuters must feel safe then they get off the train, and one way of ensuring this is that the surrounding area is well lit. Dartford has a number of stations that recently were given the ‘Safer Stations Award’ but more is needed for Stone Crossing which is not manned at all times.”

Gareth has previously made representations to Network Rail regarding the safety of the stations in the Dartford area at night.

Gareth said:

“I hope that as more money is spent on modernising the railways we will continue to see improvements in station safety and an increase in the technology and ticketing systems available to commuters from Dartford.”
