Charity Cricket Match
On 1st July 2012 at Hesketh Park I hosted my annual charity cricket game. This event saw a team of local public figures in a match against Dartford Cricket Club. Several local businesses and organisations kindly gave their support which has helped to raise funds for the Arrow Riding Centre for the Disabled in Darenth and Dartford Cricket Club.
The day started with Kwik Cricket matches being held between young members from Dartford Cricket Club and Dartford Grammar School. This was then followed by the main match at 11.30 am. Fortunately the weather was fine and drew in many families who were able to enjoy the cricket, along with stalls, tombola, a raffle, bouncy castles and 'beat the batsman'. During the lunch interval, we were entertained by the African Drummers, the Brass group and the Ukulele Orchestra from Dartford Grammar School.
The amount raised for the two charities was in the region of £1600 which was split equally between them. The Arrow Riding Centre is a fantastic asset in our community and it provides riding lessons to the disabled in Dartford and further afield. The facilities allow those with disabilities to experience horse riding and the physical and social benefits of the sport. The Centre was chosen as a training location for the Paralympic Games. Dartford Cricket Club is one of the oldest clubs in the country and provides valuable support for local community groups and recreation for young and old. It welcomes new players for either the adult or youth sides.
