Gareth Johnson MP lobbies Ed Davey MP for alternative place for Swanscombe residents to collect mail
On Monday (23rd January) Gareth Johnson, Member of Parliament for Dartford, met with Ed Davey MP Minister for Employment Relations, Consumer and Postal Affairs to discuss the closure of Swanscombe sorting office.
Gareth said “The closure of Royal Mail sorting offices is bad news for residents as it means an extra journey to Dartford to pick up undelivered mail and parcels. This is particularly problematic for individuals who have difficulties in securing transport to Dartford. More and more of us are using the internet to order things online and therefore rely on being able to collect them from a sorting office if we miss a delivery slot.”
The meeting was also attended by the Management of Royal Mail who confirmed that the Royal Mail is actively looking into other options for residents in Swanscombe to collect undelivered mail including the possibility of arranging collection from the Town Council Offices.
Gareth said “I am pleased to hear Minister’s assurances that negotiations were taking place to try and secure an alternative destination for residents to collect undelivered mail in Swanscombe. I strongly believe that as and when the sorting office is closed alternative arrangements should be made for residents to collect mail.”
