FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gareth Johnson MP encourages residents to make use of Warm Front Scheme

“As the weather turns colder we are all concerned about how to keep our homes warm” Said Gareth Johnson MP for Dartford “and I would encourage all who are struggling to afford their energy bills to take advantage of the Warm Front Scheme.”

The Warm Front scheme - which offers heating and insulation improvements to households living on low incomes - is set for up to a £30 million underspend this year.  During April to December last year, less than 40,000 people applied for a Warm Front grant, this compares with over 130,000 applications in the same period in 2010.

The scheme is expected to see up to a fifth of its £140 million worth of funding for this year go unclaimed.  This unclaimed money could help to up 16,000 households struggling to afford their energy bills to cut costs by a potential £650 per year, as well as improve the energy efficiency of many poorly-insulted homes.

Gareth Johnson said “The Government provides this money to help those on low incomes or the elderly through the winter and I would encourage all of those who might be eligible to apply.”
