Date: Wed 18th January 2012

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Gareth Johnson MP Supports both Dartford Town Centre and Bluewater in Parliament

On Tuesday (17th Jan) Gareth Johnson MP took part in a Parliamentary debate on the future of town centres and the British high street.

Gareth said “The Government is taking steps to help high streets across the country including the doubling of small business rate relief for two years.  Equally in Dartford the Council is also working hard towards improving and re-developing the town centre with an exciting new regeneration project for Lowfield Street.”

“Retail makes up for 8% of GDP in this country and the Government must continue to protect this important industry.  We must also not forget the contribution of successful out of town shopping centres such as Bluewater, which has brought thousands of jobs to the area and is a popular, safe and pro family destination for local people.”
