Gareth Johnson MP secures assurances from Roads Minister to reduce noise pollution from the approach to the Dartford Crossing

On Thursday last week Gareth Johnson, MP for Dartford, raised the issue of noise pollution at the approach to the Dartford Crossing in the House of Commons with the Minister for Roads Mike Penning MP. He was given assurances by the Roads Minister that steps will be taken to tackle this problem.

Gareth said “ An issue that is often skipped over during the debate on the Crossing is the issue of noise pollution. This can be a blight on the lives of those living anywhere near it. It is right to prioritise tackling the congestion at the Crossing but whatever actually happens to the Crossing itself we will still be left with noise that emanates from the road surface of the M25. There are a large number of people who live close enough to the approach to the Crossing to be adversely affected by surface noise. This noise could be reduced if the current surface was replaced with low noise tarmac. I am extremely pleased that Mike Penning gave assurances during the debate that the tarmac in this area would be replaced to help reduce this problem.”

“I will continue to campaign on the issue of the Dartford Crossing and will raise this matter in Parliament on behalf of all residents in Dartford whenever I have the opportunity.  I am pleased that the Roads Minister has acknowledged that noise pollution is a problem for residents and that steps will be taken to reduce this problem.”
