Gareth Johnson MP presents donation to British Legion

Date: Mon 10th October 2011

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gareth Johnson MP presents donation to British Legion

Earlier this week Gareth Johnson MP presented a donation of just over £3,000 to the Royal British Legion raised at a cricket match hosted by Dartford Cricket Club earlier this year.
In the ninety years since the British Legion was created it has helped thousands of serving and ex service personnel and their families. It is now one of the UK’s largest membership organisations.
Gareth said “I am pleased to have had the opportunity to support the British legion in the excellent work that they do supporting current and former service men and women and their families.”
Clare Saunders from the British Legion said: “We were so grateful to Gareth and his team for organising this fun event in the Summer and are delighted to receive the proceeds today as they will help make a difference to our Service men and women’s lives locally.   In Kent alone this year, we will have responded to over 1300 calls for help from Service people, and this number is likely to grow in light of the current conflicts.  More than £1.4 million is spent each week on the Legion’s work to help our Armed Forces family, so every penny that people like Gareth help to raise is vitally important.  By organising this charity cricket match, Gareth and his team have shown that they are truly standing 'shoulder to shoulder' with our Service family.  Thank you.”
