The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Date: Tue 29th May 2012

The Jubilee celebrations for the forthcoming weekend are now gathering pace. On Sunday, Dartford Borough Council organised the Great Big Jubilee Kids Day Out in Central Park and many more celebrations are planned in the area. It’s great to see the growing number of Union flags being displayed as the Country comes together to commemorate the Queen’s sixty years on the throne.

The Queen’s popularity has undoubtedly grown in recent years as more and more people take stock of just how successful her reign has been. There have been enormous changes in society since she took to the throne yet she has achieved the right balance of moving with the times and yet retaining the traditions we all enjoy.

In an ever changing world the Queen remains the one constant. You have to be over seventy years old now to fully remember what life was like before she became Monarch. Her father, King George VI was a popular, wartime King so she had a tough act to follow. Yet over time she has managed to create a second Elizabethan era that will go down in history as one of the most successful of any Monarch’s reign.

It is only fairly recently that we have, as a nation, begun to fully appreciate how much she means to the Country and how much we owe for her tireless commitment to duty. Let’s hope we have many more years yet to enjoy this privilege.
