MP takes surgery to Dartford market stall

Date: Mon 9th May 2011

Next week I will be hiring a stall in Dartford Market to meet with local people and chat about national issues and matters that affect the local area. This is something of an experiment and if it proves to be successful then I hope that  this novel way of holding an MP’s surgery can be a fairly regular feature of the local market. It is too easy for politicians to become detached from the people they represent so this approach will ensure that I can listen to what people are saying about the local area and what they think about the Government. Dartford has been a market town since the middle ages and so I am pleased to be able to support this popular and historic feature of our town.

Since I was elected a year ago I have also held surgeries in village halls and in supermarkets. These have proven to be very popular. Over the past twelve months I have helped hundreds of people who have come to see me. My regular surgeries will continue to be held at Bluewater Shopping Centre but it is important to try out additional venues that people find easy to get to.  I can’t always solve peoples’ problems but my small team and I will do all we can to help.

If you have a concern that you think that I can help with then I can be contacted in a variety of ways; by phone, e-mail, fax or letter but if you are in Dartford High Street next week then please stop by for a chat.
