| Privilege of Parliament and attending the Dartford Festival 22nd July 2010 |
| One of the privileges of being the local MP is to attend the myriad of community events in the constituency, the latest of which was last weekend’s fun packed Dartford Festival. |
| It was a pleasure to see so many families spending time together and enjoying the performances by a large number of celebrities on the main stage. The Sunday morning Church service was well attended and many others ran stalls and helped out with the productions given by local groups. I particularly enjoyed meeting the large number of community organisations who had stalls at the Festival. There are so many voluntary groups in Dartford who contribute something positive to the local area. |
| An enormous ‘thank you’ should go to these volunteers who give up their time to train and mentor our youngsters. Government is talking about the ‘ Big Society’ which can sometimes be difficult to get over on the doorstep but it is alive and well in Dartford. The Youth, Dance and Sports zones laid on a variety of activities and played a vital role in ensuring that the Dartford Festival is now the envy of so many other towns in Kent. |
| The Festival is going from strength to strength, it is a huge success story and one which the Local Council can rightly be proud of. Too often people can be quick to knock Dartford but in Central Park over the weekend we saw the genuine strengths of the local area |
