| MP's first Kent Messenger column 15th July 2010 |
| I write my first column for the Dartford Messenger not just as your new MP but also as someone who has always had strong links with Dartford. I live in the constituency with my wife and two young children, I am a former Dartford Grammar School boy and I worked in Dartford as a solicitor in the criminal justice system. |
| Over the term of this Parliament, I will write on many subjects, some I hope will be thought provoking, some will be about my everyday life as an MP, my voting pattern and, above all, standing up for Dartford residents. |
| Whether you voted for me or not it is my job to represent everybody in the constituency. |
| The first few weeks have been a steep learning curve. All new MPs have to find systems of dealing with the many pieces of correspondence from constituents, the new workings of the coalition Government and having to learn the historic rules and customs of the greatest Parliament in the world |
| I have already met up with dozens of people and organisations that play a part in making Dartford the marvellous, diverse and forward looking place it is today. It is great to be able to help these people in providing a valuable contribution to the local area and a real privilege to be able to put back something to the area that has given me so much |
| There are so many things that need to be done to help both Dartford and Britain reach its full potential but it is wonderful to, at long last, begin this task. |
