Yesterday, I held a debate in Parliament on Government support to repair the road at Galley Hill.
Since the collapse of the road in April last year, it has been a nightmare for residents and surrounding businesses.
Ultimately, the repair or replacement of the road is a matter for Kent County Council as the Highways Authority. We had all hoped KCC and Thames Water would have resolved the situation by now, but alas, that’s not the case.
Central Government can assist, but it still needs Thames Water to agree to this and for the surveys to be carried out, neither of which has happened so far. The fact that one of the land owners is refusing to allow KCC to access their land to carry out the surveys, further complicates things.
The Roads Minister is inviting the Chief Executive of Thames Water and his legal team to meet with him, to discuss the way ahead.
