Dartford MP, Gareth Johnson, said today that the Just Stop Oil protester who brought Dartford to standstill last year when he climbed up the Dartford Crossing, should be deported when he is released from prison.
Marcus Decker, one of two protesters who climbed up the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge causing the road to be shut for 36 hours, caused two days of misery for drivers.
Mr Decker, who is a German citizen, now faces deportation following his prison sentence of two years and seven months. At the weekend hundreds of people from various groups marched to the Home Office in resistance to the decision to deport Mr Decker. In addition, a petition against his deportation has been signed by more than 85,000 people.
Mr Johnson said: “He should be deported; I see no reason why there should be an exception.
His selfish actions caused misery for the whole of Dartford. He didn’t care about the consequences of his actions. It was deliberate, pre-planned and prolonged.
This action prevented people getting to work, from picking up their children and from going about their daily lives.
His prison sentence was not a day too long. This sentence sent a clear message that these actions were not ok.”
