I was pleased to present a petition in the Chamber of the House of Commons on behalf of staff and pupils at The Brent Primary School.
When I visited this excellent school during Parliament week, I was asked if I would present this petition which calls for roads surrounding the school to have a speed limit of 20 mph instead of 30 mph and to be free from speeding traffic.
This is an important issue for the school as sadly, a pupil lost her life due to a speeding, unsafe driver. Pupils at the school feel that if safety is improved, they will be more likely to walk and cycle to places, leading healthier lifestyles.
The petition urges the Government to take immediate action to change the speed limit surrounding The Brent Primary School to 20 mph and to introduce other speed restriction measures including speed cameras, speed bumps, posters and police checks so that the speed limit is adhered to.
