Back in January, the friends of Claire Tiltman led a walk to mark the twentieth anniversary of her death. The fact that the terrible events in 1993 have moved out of the public spotlight since then doesn’t mean that the investigation has in any way slowed down.
Over the past fortnight I have met with the Home Secretary, the Chief Constable and the officer leading the investigation into Claire Tiltman’s death and what is clear is the campaign is very active. It is reassuring to know that Kent Police are relentlessly pursuing leads in this case and are determined to bring Justice for Claire Tiltman.
The fantastic efforts of Claire Tiltman’s friends in reminding people about her case has given everyone involved in the investigation an extra boost. Kent Police are clearly very focussed on solving one of the saddest crimes in the Country. In January the Prime Minister also called on anyone who could provide help to Kent Police to contact them and the Home Secretary was very keen to point out to me that there is no chance of anyone simply paying lip service to this case.
Everybody who remembers this murder is deeply saddened by the impact it had on her parents and friends and the senseless nature of the whole episode. It is an event that continues to provoke strong feelings. I am confident that Kent Police, Claire’s friends and family, myself and the local community will not rest until this murder is solved.
