I have teamed up with Cllr Peter Whapshott and Dartford’s Gurkhas to lobby the Ministry of Defence for Gurkhas to receive equal pensions to their British colleagues.
It cannot be right that Gurkhas who retired before 1997 receive less pension than their counterparts in the British Army.
For over 200 years Gurkhas have served shoulder to shoulder with British troops on numerous campaigns, receiving 26 VCs, whilst some 19,000 have been killed in action serving our country.
They are hugely respected in Dartford and across the whole country and equal treatment for all Gurkhas must be the right approach.
